Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has. Margaret Mead
Welcome to Environmental Science! My name is Ms. Benes. I am a native Texan and I was raised in Houston. As a kid, my parents took me camping for family vacations and I continue to love spending time outside today. Because of my love of people and the outdoors I majored in Therapeutic Recreation in college at Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas. After graduating, I worked with at-risk youth in a program where they backpacked, lived outside, and did therapy all at the same time. I decided to get a masters degree that would give me an opportunity to be outside and I completed my masters in Environmental Education from Lesley University, a small liberal arts college in Massachusetts. I've lived all over the U.S. but I love living in Charlotte - the weather, the people, the mountains, and the beach all make this area fun and exciting! I became a teacher because I felt called to this profession and I want to see students grow over years, not just short periods of time. I'm excited for you to be in my class. We're going to have a great year!
